The “Acts Eleven” Model

“The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.”

Acts 11:21

“The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.” Acts 11:26

“Telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus.” Acts 11:20

“He was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.” Acts 11:23

“Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people.” Acts 11:26

“So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.” Acts 13:3

Philosophy of Ministry Statement

We believe the power of the gospel is unleashed through the word preached. Romans 10:14 asks the question, “And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” Therefore the local church is responsible for ensuring that people are hearing the word of God. Each Sunday, we take a portion of Scripture and carefully explain it so that everyone may hear and believe.

Style of Worship

We use a contemporary style of worship music. For us this includes guitars, keyboards and drums. We use this style because many people in our culture are more familiar with this form of music. Our desire is that each person relate to the music. However, our style of worship does not dictate our song selection. We believe deeply that our worship music should communicate the truth about who God is and what He has done. We are very concerned that the lyrics of our songs reflect what the Bible reveals. On any given Sunday we may use hymns or worship choruses that we believe best communicate the wonderful message of what God has done. Our goal is to worship wholeheartedly and accurately the amazing God that we have come to know through Jesus Christ.

Baptism and Communion
We practice water baptism by immersion for those who have believed in Jesus as Savior and Lord. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday. We practice these ordinances in this way based on the practice of the New Testament churches.
Spiritual Gifts

We believe that God is all-powerful and continues to work in powerful ways among his people. We are encouraged when we see the evidence of God’s grace poured out among us. However, all of the Spirit’s gifts are to be used humbly and in ways that build the Church up, never in divisive ways. Therefore, we do not generally have an open time in our worship services for the expression of spiritual gifts.

Church Government

We are governed by a plurality of male Elders. These men are responsible for the oversight and spiritual care of the Church. Each of the Elders serves perpetually unless for physical or spiritual reasons they are unable to continue in this ministry. With this model we are seeking to be faithful both to the example and instruction found in the New Testament. On certain occasions we will hold a congregational vote of support regarding financial changes in the ministry (i.e. purchasing land or hiring additional staff).

Small Groups

We believe God calls every Christian to spiritually grow into maturity. We do this by faithfully applying God’s word to our lives. Our small groups provide a context for encouraging and helping one another faithfully grow in knowledge and holy living. The small groups also provide a place of fellowship, caring and ministry in our lives.

What We Believe

The Godhead

We believe that the Godhead is the single essence of God the Creator existing eternally in three persons, all equal in deity and glory: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

John 1:1-2; Genesis 1:26; Galatians 4:4-6

We believe that God is the only God and He is the all powerful, all-knowing, ever-present and unchanging creator of everything that has existence. God is the highest order of love, truth, righteousness and justice.

Genesis 1:1-27; John 1:1; Romans 11:33-36

Virgin Birth

We believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, becoming man in order to become a perfect, sinless sacrifice. Jesus, being fully God and fully man, lived a life of total obedience to God the Father and was tempted in all things in order to relate to mankind. Jesus willingly sacrificed His life on the cross and then physically rose from the dead, demonstrating His victory over sin and death. Those who accept Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives receive righteousness through His death and justification through His resurrection.

Matthew 1:18-20; John 3:16; Romans 4:23-25

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is sent by God the Father to make every person aware of the need for a relationship with Jesus and that he lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides Christians with power for living, comfort, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing the will of God. He also bestows spiritual gifts to every believer and we seek to live under His direction daily. We believe that all gifts should be administered in light of Paul's teaching found in 1 Corinthians.

Romans 8:11; John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 12:3-11

The Holy Bible

We believe that the Holy Bible is the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life. The original manuscripts which comprise the Old and New Testaments were inspired by God and are inerrant in content and infallible in the truth contained therein. The Scriptures were written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Psalm 119:9, 11

Fall From Grace

We believe that man was created by God as a perfect eternal being in God’s own image. Man chose to be disobedient to God, which marred his perfection, bringing upon himself the judgment of spiritual and physical death. Sin (disobedience to God) eternally separates man from God.

Genesis 1:26, 31; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1

We believe that salvation is a free and undeserved gift from God. Jesus paid for our sins through His death on the cross. We receive God’s promise of eternal life in His Kingdom when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior which is evidenced by our ongoing submission to His will.

1 Peter 1:18-21 ; Acts 4:12; John 3:16

Water Baptism

We believe that water baptism was taught and demonstrated by Jesus as an example for us to follow. Upon placing faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we are required to repent of our sins and submit to Him in total obedience by immersion.

Matthew 28:19; 3:13-15; Acts 2:38

We believe that Heaven is the supernatural realm where God resides and reigns over all of creation. Heaven is His eternal kingdom where all who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior will enter.

2 Peter 1:10, 11 ; Isaiah 6:1-8; Hebrews 12: 22, 23

We believe that hell is the real and everlasting place of separation from God as indicated in scripture. It was created for Satan and his fallen angels as a place of everlasting torment. Those who refuse to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior will spend eternity there.

Matthew 25:41; 8:12 ; 2 Thessalonians 1: 8, 9

We believe that Communion (the celebration of the Lord’s Supper) was established by Jesus to remind His followers of His sinless life, sacrificial death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and promised return. Communion is an integral part of our weekly worship and is open to all baptized believers.

Luke 22:14-20; John 6:26-58; 1 Corinthians 11:27-34

We believe that marriage is a holy institution created by God and intended as a permanent and intimate bond between a man and a woman, as God created them, to become one.

Matthew 19:4-6; Romans 7:2-3; Ephesians. 5:21-33
